The Supreme Court on Monday (March 3, 2025) allowed podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia to air his “The Ranveer Show” subject to maintaining “morality and decency” and an undertaking that it was suitable for all ages. The top court said there should be a clear divide between humour and perversity shown or spoken on online shows and social media.

The Bench headed by Justice Surya Kant was hearing an application filed by Ranveer Allahbadia seeking a modification of a clause in the court’s February 18 order allowing him interim protection from arrest on the basis of FIRs lodged in Maharashtra and Assam concerning his comments about parents and sex in the show ‘India Got Latent’. The clause in question barred him from airing or telecasting shows, podcasts.

Justice Kant agreed with Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and said that humour is something that a family sitting together would be able to enjoy and laugh at without embarrassment.

CM Rekha Gupta stated that the cabinet discussed two important issues and the government is committed to fulfilling the promises that the party made. Besides, Delhi’s ex-Chief Minister Atishi on Thursday said that the saffron party was deceiving by not announcing the decision to give Rs 2500 to people in their first cabinet meeting.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said that she has called a meeting of PWD and Jal Board officials, adding that the focus will be on the issue of potholes. In her first cabinet meeting as the CM, she approved the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi with a Rs 5 lakh top-up and also announced that 14 pending CAG reports will be tabled in the first sitting of the Assembly.

“In the cabinet meeting yesterday, we approved the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which was blocked by the AAP. The scheme will soon be in the public domain… Today, we have called the PWD and Jal Board officials for a meeting with the cabinet. We will take over the issue of potholes,” CM Gupta was quoted as saying by ANI. Infrastructure and access of clean drinking water were few of the forefront issues of the recently concluded Delhi assembly elections in which the BJP emerged victorious.

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has scripted an inspiring comeback, forcing his way back into the national squad with consistent performances in domestic cricket. After being dropped from the BCCI’s central contract list last year, Iyer made a strong statement by proving his worth on the field.

Since Gautam Gambhir took over as India’s head coach, Iyer has been a crucial part of the ODI setup. His stellar domestic form earned him a spot in India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against England and the upcoming Champions Trophy.

🔹 Iyer Breaks Silence on His International Hiatus

In a video shared by the BCCI, Shreyas opened up about his time away from international cricket and how he used it as an opportunity to grow.

Valuable Lessons From His Break
“I feel this gap which I basically got from international cricket has given me a lot of learnings.”

Success Is a Process, Not a Destination
“To be honest, I don’t run behind success—I follow a routine and preparation which will take me towards success.”

Champion Mindset
“For me, a champion is me. It is all in the mind.”

Self-Belief Over External Validation
“I personally feel there is no one to support you other than yourself. You keep elevating yourself, transforming from one level to another, and you never cry over spilt milk.”

A Statement of Intent

Iyer’s words reflect his unshakable mental strength and self-belief, qualities that have fueled his resurgence. With a packed season ahead, all eyes will be on him to translate his mindset into match-winning performances.

However, chaos erupted in the Lok Sabha as Congress submitted an adjournment motion demanding a discussion on the deportation of over 100 Indian nationals by the United States, leading to an adjournment until 12 PM.

The motion stated, “This House must urgently address the issue to prevent further dehumanisation of our people and to uphold the dignity of every Indian, both at home and abroad.”

🔹 Key Agendas for Today

🔹 The Lok Sabha session will begin with Question Hour, followed by various ministries laying Parliamentary Papers on the table.

🔹 Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has submitted an adjournment motion, calling for a discussion on the allegedly distressing and humiliating deportation of Indian nationals.

🔹 Congress Whip in Lok Sabha, Manickam Tagore, has also moved a motion seeking to address the “inhumane deportation of Indian Nationals by the United States” and urged the government to take necessary steps to prevent mistreatment of Indians abroad.

🔹 A new Income Tax Bill, which aims to replace the Income Tax Act of 1961, is expected to be introduced in Parliament today.

📌 AAP and Luxury Politics: Taking a jab at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, Modi remarked that while some leaders are busy enjoying “jacuzzis and stylish showers,” his government is ensuring clean drinking water reaches every household.

📌 Opposition Raises Maha Kumbh Stampede Issue: Several opposition MPs in the Rajya Sabha demanded clarity on the Maha Kumbh stampede, urging the government to disclose casualty figures and ensure fair compensation. Rachin Ravindra struck a marvellous unbeaten hundred to resist a spirited Indian bowling attack led by Ravindra Jadeja as New Zealand reached 345 for seven at lunch to extend their lead on the third day of the first Test here on Friday.

Ravindra (104, 125b) and an equally feisty Tim Southee (49, 50b) were at the crease when the lunch was taken, as the visitors led by 299 runs.

Ravindra, overnight 22, and Southee have so far added precious 112 runs for the eighth wicket alliance.

Resuming the day from 180 for three, New Zealand lost wickets regularly in the initial hour to raise the vision of a collapse before Ravindra bailed them out with a stunning knock.

Ravindra, who has his family roots in Bengaluru, concentrated on safeguarding his wicket when the bowlers were on the rampage, but opened up once the pitch settled down more to display his full range.

The left-hander showed the correct method to play spinners on this track, either staying on the front foot or making a shimmy down the pitch that nullified the turn and also took the leg before dismissal out of the equation.

A thundering six off Jadeja took him to 94 and he reached 98 by dispatching the very next ball to the fence through the covers.

There were no nerves as a cleanly swept four off Ravichandran Ashwin carried him to his second Test hundred, which he celebrated with gusto.

Southee, who hammered a couple of his trademark sixes, gave solid company to Ravindra as New Zealand motored away quickly to command.

Earlier, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj struck better line and length in the initial hour of the day as compared to the previous day, and they were rewarded with a wicket each.

Daryl Mitchell, overnight 14, was the first to depart, slashing Siraj straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal near gully.

Bumrah soon accounted for Tom Blundell, who guided an away going delivery to KL Rahul at second slip as the Kiwis lost two wickets in the space of 11 runs.

Jadeja, who relishes to challenge incoming batters, stepped in at the right time and the pace at which he bowled was good enough to keep the batsmen in doubt on a slightly two-paced pitch.

The dismissal of Glenn Phillips was a telling example. The right-hander can do serious damage if he stays in the crease for a longer duration, and his massive straight six off Kuldeep Yadav had a foreboding look to it.

But Jadeja kept Phillips to backfoot often and finally managed to breach his defence with a quick, fuller one that came along with his arm.

Jadeja soon added the wicket of Matt Henry to the kitty, as the batter could not connect a pull and the ball rearranged his stumps.

But New Zealand had their own Ravindra to shore them up amidst the flurry of wickets at the other end.

The Supreme Court on Friday closed the proceedings in a habeas corpus petition filed by a man who had alleged that his two daughters were held captive inside the premises of spiritual leader Jaggi Vasudev’s Isha Foundation at Coimbatore.

A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud noted that both the women were major and have stated that they were residing at the ashram voluntarily and without any coercion.

A habeas corpus petition is filed seeking direction to produce before the court a person who is missing or has been illegally detained.

The bench, also comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, also noted that in pursuance of its October 3 order, the police has submitted a status report before it. The bench observed it would be unnecessary for the apex court to expand upon the ambit of these proceedings which arises from a habeas corpus petition which was initially filed before the Madras High Court.

On October 3, the top court had effectively halted the police probe into the alleged illegal confinement of two women at the Foundation’s ashram at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.

Transferring to itself the habeas corpus petition which was filed before the high court, the top court had directed the Tamil Nadu Police to not take any further action in pursuance of the high court’s direction asking it to inquire into the alleged illegal confinement of the women.

The apex court had passed the order after the Isha Foundation approached it challenging the high court’s order directing the Coimbatore Police to collect all case details registered against the Foundation and produce them before the court for further consideration.

Rishabh Pant will not keep wickets for India on the third day of the opening Test against New Zealand after copping a blow to his knee during the second day’s play here.

The Indian team management informed shortly before resumption of play on Friday that Pant will remain away from action.

“Mr Rishabh Pant will not keep wickets on Day 3. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” the statement said.

Pant was hit on his right knee in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings when a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja spun sharply inwards and hit his right knee with Devon Conway at the strike.

The wicketkeeper-batter had to leave the field and captain Rohit Sharma informed after the end of play that there was some swelling and the team did not want to take any risks.

He was replaced by Dhruv Jurel for the remainder of the play.

Pant had undergone multiple surgeries on the right knee after that horrific car accident in December 2022.

“Unfortunately, the ball hit straight on his knee cap, the same leg which he has done a surgery. So, he has got a little bit of swelling on it and the muscles are quite tender at this point of time,” Rohit told media on Thursday.

“It is a precautionary measure. We do not want to take a risk. Rishabh does not want to take a risk because he has gone through a massive surgery on that particular leg,” he said.

“So, that was the reason for him to go inside. Hopefully, tonight he can recover and we will see him back on the field tomorrow,” added Rohit.

Three members of a family died here on Friday after the roof of their house collapsed following a cylinder blast which also killed a neighbour, police said.

Two buffaloes also died in the incident in which some other members of the family sustained minor injuries.

The incident occurred in Bhakri village around 2.15 am when Sarjeet, his wife Babita and grandson Nakul were sleeping in a room on the first floor of his house, they said.

A gas leak in their room led to the cylinder explosion, causing the roof to collapse, trapping them under the debris, police said.

According to police, the explosion was so strong that debris also fell on Laxmi and her son, who were sleeping on the roof of a neighbouring house.

The villagers gathered at the spot after the explosion and informed the police. A police team reached the spot and began the rescue operation with the help of a Hydra machine, a senior police officer said.

The officer said that the bodies of Nakul and his grandparents were pulled out of the debris while Laxmi and her child were taken to a hospital, where she died during treatment.

The bodies have been handed over to their respective kin after postmortem on Friday, Dabua Station House Officer Vidya Sagar said.

The cause behind the cylinder blast is yet to ascertained yet and an investigation is underway in the matter, he added.

We woke reasonably late following the feast and free flowing wine the night before. After gathering ourselves and our packs, we headed down to our homestay family’s small dining room for breakfast.

Refreshingly, what was expected of her was the same thing that was expected of Lara Stone: to take a beautiful picture.

We were making our way to the Rila Mountains, where we were visiting the Rila Monastery where we enjoyed scrambled eggs, toast, mekitsi, local jam and peppermint tea.

We wandered the site with other tourists

Yet strangely the place did not seem crowded. I’m not sure if it was the sheer size of the place, or whether the masses congregated in one area and didn’t venture far from the main church, but I didn’t feel overwhelmed by tourists in the monastery.

Headed over Lions Bridge and made our way to the Sofia Synagogue, then sheltered in the Central Market Hall until the recurrent (but short-lived) mid-afternoon rain passed.

Feeling refreshed after an espresso, we walked a short distance to the small but welcoming Banya Bashi Mosque, then descended into the ancient Serdica complex.

We were exhausted after a long day of travel, so we headed back to the hotel and crashed.

I had low expectations about Sofia as a city, but after the walking tour I absolutely loved the place. This was an easy city to navigate, and it was a beautiful city – despite its ugly, staunch and stolid communist-built surrounds. Sofia has a very average facade as you enter the city, but once you lose yourself in the old town area, everything changes.
