BENGALURU: Global music sensation Ed Sheeran was stopped from performing on a busy Bengaluru street after police denied him permission, citing heavy traffic concerns. A video of the incident has since gone viral, showing a police officer unplugging Sheeran’s musical equipment mid-performance on Church Street.
According to Bengaluru’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central, Shekar T Tekkannanavar, a representative from Sheeran’s team had sought permission for a street performance, but it was declined due to the area’s congestion. “Church Street gets very crowded, so we could not allow it,” he told ANI.
However, Sheeran refuted this claim on Instagram, stating, “We had permission to busk, hence playing in that exact spot. It was planned out before; it wasn’t just us randomly turning up.”
Sheeran is currently in India for his Mathematics Tour and has already performed in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and is set to appear in Pune, Shillong, and Delhi NCR. Bengaluru was the only city where he played twice due to overwhelming demand.
