Four Indians, including leading run-getter Gongadi Trisha, were named in the Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup team of the tournament, announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, February 3.
Gonagdi Trisha’s inclusion comes as no surprise as she topped the batting charts, scoring 308 runs at an average of 77.25 and a strike rate of 147. Tirsha was a pillar for the champions at the top of the order. Her standout performance in the final against South Africa included an unbeaten 44 and three crucial wickets. India hammered South Africa by nine wickets in Kuala Lumpur on Monday to win the tournament for the second successive time.
South Africa’s Kayla Reyneke was named the captain of the team in a reward for her insipring leadership that powered the African side to another ICC final.
Joining Trisha is G Kamalini, the opening batter who brought in a lot of solidity to the top of the order.. Kamalini’s contributions included a solid 56 not out in the semi-final against England, which helped India secure their place in the final. Her overall tally of 143 runs at an average of 35.75 highlighted her consistency at the top of the order.
The batting lineup was complemented by South Africa’s Jemma Botha, England’s Davina Perrin, and Australia’s Caoimhe Bray, all of whom made significant contributions with the bat. Bray, in particular, showcased her all-round skills by also taking seven wickets during the competition.
