Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh – A 23-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her father and brother just a day after she married her partner against her family’s wishes. The tragic incident, which took place in the Bhangi Mohalla area of Greater Noida, has led to the arrest of the accused father-son duo.
The victim, Neha Rathore, had recently inscribed both her and her father’s names on the blue plastic entry door of their home, embellishing it with chalk-drawn flowers. However, a few weeks later, she was found dead inside the same house, reportedly strangled by her father, Bhanu Rathore (40), and her brother, Himanshu Rathore (19).
According to police reports, the family hastily cremated her at around 5:30 a.m. on March 12, allegedly destroying all her belongings in an attempt to erase evidence. The authorities have since launched a full investigation into the case, and both suspects are now in custody.
This incident underscores the persistent issue of honour-based violence in India, where individuals—especially women—often face severe consequences for defying societal and familial expectations regarding marriage.
Authorities continue to gather evidence, and legal proceedings are underway.
